Sunblast Issue 1

September 11, 2013 - Issue 1

Principal's Message

Dear Soleado Parents,

On behalf of the faculty and staff, I would like to welcome you and your family to our little place in the sun.  It was a busy summer on our campus with construction and very little water, but as you can see, with a little bit of love, everything is coming together.

There were some special items added to our Soleado campus this summer. AYSO generously donated a new shed that holds all of our emergency supplies.  Two Eagle Scouts spent a whole weekend beautifying our school.  Michael Hashimoto created a garden area next to the Ninos building and planted more flowers in our hillside sun.  Ross Miller redesigned a shaded area with seating and flagstone flooring which creates a nice “hang out” area for our students. Great job Scouts!

Our standardized test results are in and it looks like Soleado shines once again. We are proud of our student’s academic achievements and their hard work really paid off.  I would like to offer a special thanks to our dedicated teachers for all they do to provide access to the curriculum for all of our students.  You are a great group of professionals and we are fortunate to have you at our school.

There are some important events that are coming up in the near future that you should add to your calendars.
·   Thursday, September 12th, Back to School Night
·   Friday, September 13th will be Picture day at Soleado.  More information will be sent home with your child so keep an eye out.
·   Next week, is Yellow Ribbon Week

Please make sure that you have signed up on Member Planet.  This is a great way to stay informed about all activities at Soleado.  Also, make sure to check our Edline site once a week for updates and classroom activities.

I sincerely look forward to getting to know all of our students and their families over the course of this year.  For me, Soleado is more than just a school but is also a village whose primary function is to foster good citizenship and academic excellence in our students in an environment that is safe and enjoyable.  Look for opportunities to get involved in our school this year and don’t hesitate to contact me if you can’t find anything to do.  I know that there is something for everyone at our little place in the sun.

Once again, welcome to the 2013-2014 school year at Soleado.  I am excited about all of the wonderful things we have in store for your child this year.

-Mrs. Gina Stutzel

Welcome our newest Sun Mrs. Lisa Rogers

We would like to welcome our newest Soleado Sun, Mrs. Lisa Rogers.  Mrs. Rogers is one of our exceptional first grade teachers.  Her calm gentle approach with children has created a loving energy in her classroom, which is just one of many reasons we are blessed to have her as part of the Soleado Family. She believes that children should be active, are unique individuals, and create a positive energy that fills her up with joy every day. Some of the things, besides teaching, that Mrs. Rogers loves are her two beautiful children, Ethan and Lindsay.  She also really enjoys swimming.  Recently, Mrs. Rogers participated in a 1 mile swim from Angel Island to Tiburon. She is looking forward to joining a local swim team so that she can continue her swimming pursuits.  Professionally, Mrs. Rogers has taught in the Palos Verdes School District (’97-’07) before moving to Lake Arrowhead. Most recently, she was a K-8 instructor for the California Virtual Academy (CAVA).  Her experience with the Common Core and use of technology in education is just a few ways Mrs. Rogers will contribute her expertise and knowledge to the students at Soleado.

Mrs. Rogers wants the students and parents of Soleado to know that her door is always open and would love some assistance working with the students in the new garden, which was built by a local Eagle Scout this summer, Michael Hashimoto.

Next time you see Mrs. Rogers, make sure to say “Hi” and welcome her to our Soleado Family!

Reflections Program 2013-2014
"Believe, Dream, Inspire"

Reflections Program – Introduction
The Reflections Arts Recognition Program is a national arts recognition and achievement program for students. Since 1969, over 10 million students across the nation have taken part in this popular PTA program.
The excitement and enthusiasm that the program generates for students, parents, schools and communities is unmatched with the majority of California PTAs participating in the program at all PTA levels.
That's why the Reflections Program provides an excellent opportunity for students of all ages to:

  • Unleash their creative talents and be inspired
  • Express themselves imaginatively in their artwork
  • Experience the joy and fun of making art
  • Tap into critical thinking skills to create art inspired by the annual theme
  • Receive positive recognition for their original works of art
As an added bonus, in showcasing and celebrating student talent, the Reflections Program increases community awareness of the importance of the arts in education.
We are preparing for the program at our school and will be sending out more information with dates and events. Please review the information below to learn more until then.
