Gently Used Clothing
Hanging Around?

Do you have gently used kids' clothes at home that you're looking to donate or give away?  Schoola Stitch is a new online consignment store that sells new and gently used children's clothes and donates part of the sales to schools.  It's so easy to do!  Just request a bag, fill it with clothes, and either take it to UPS at Peninsula Center or call UPS for a pick up.  Stitch will sort it, put it online, and then track sales.  For every item sold from a Soleado family, we'll receive up to 40% of the sale price!  Use this link for more information:

Costume Closet Prepares for 2014

The Costume Closet is still working on improvements and needs the help of all volunteers.  This week and next Wednesday/Thursday the Costume Closet will be open and there are still times available.  Please sign up at supersaas.com which has been updated from January through March.

Menders and Ironers do not need to sign up on Supersaas, you do however receive credits for hours worked.

Colonial Days are big for us and the elementary schools in the spring.  There is a week reserve policy and many schools from the South Bay use our resource.  Look to the Costume Closet for ALL your dress up needs!

Thank you & have a wonderful Holiday Season.

We Appreciate Volunteers!

A big thank you Eva Ruiz and Noell Whitaker for chairing the Teacher's Luncheon "Fire and Ice" dedicated for our wonderful staff taking place Dec. 11th.  Many parents also helped with the hot and cold themed menu and decorations.  Ultimately it is the teachers we want to appreciate for all they do everyday!

Thank you to Catherine Lucas and Paula Persson for preparing the PTA Memberships that went out with the directories.  We hope members will use their discounts at Staples and Legoland to start using their benefits.

A big thank you to Linh Tu for getting us approved as an Amazon affiliate.  We are already seeing orders come in through the link and we hope that parents will continue to support Soleado through their Amazon purchases.  (See link above.)

Booster Update

Are you still buying presents for family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, hosts/hostesses, service providers?  If so, we don’t want you to miss out on helping Soleado while you shop!

(All of the information below is available on our Member Planet site, with easy access of all of the links we provide below.)

AMAZON:

Use our Amazon link to help Soleado earn a percentage of your purchase?  Just click on the link, and shop!  Right now, enough families have used the link that we are earning 6.5% on purchases in December.  Keep it going!  (And if you started shopping before you remembered the link, just open a new window, use the link to go back to Amazon, and your items will be waiting for you in your cart, to complete the sale.  Only now, they’ll help Soleado!)

OTHER ONLINE RETAILERS:

If you register as a Soleado supported with Box Tops For Education and shop through their site, you’ll earn e-box tops for shopping through some of the most popular online retailers, such as Macy’s, REI, Toys R Us, Living Social, Ann Taylor, Gap, Bloomingdales, Harry & David, Scholastic, Shutterfly, Sephora, Hotels.com, Southwest Airlines, Lands End, Bedhead Pajamas, and many, many more!  This year, we’ve already earned $100 from people doing their everyday shopping!

TARGET

If you have a Target Red Card credit card and registered as a Soleado supporter, you’ll receive a 5% discount on your purchases both in-store and online, free shipping online, and Target will donate a percentage of your purchase back to the school.  So far this year, we’ve earned over $180 just from people shopping!  And you’ll even receive a discount on gift cards!

And thank you for supporting Soleado!

Donate Used Children's Clothing And Raise Money For Our Suns

Donate used children’s clothing and raise money for Soleado!

If you’re going to clean out closets this winter break or any time in the future, consider participating in an easy Soleado fundraiser.  Schoola Stitch is a new online consignment store for gently used designer kids clothing.  They offer two ways to help Soleado: 1) by donating a bag of clothing, shoes and accessories; and 2) shopping their online store.  When you or other shoppers purchase items donated by a Soleado supporter, Soleado receives up to 40% of the sale.

Donating is simple:

1.            Go online to request a bag.  Schoola Stitch will send it to you within days.
2.            Fill your bag.
3.            Call UPS for a free pick up or drop off your bag to a UPS Store (there’s one across from Petco, near Starbucks, at the Peninsula Center) for free delivery.
4.            Watch what happens!  Within a week, Schoola Stitch will photograph your clothing and put it online for sale.

Shopping:

Love bargains?  Live the “reduce, reuse, recycle” lifestyle?  Do some shopping!  The Soleado site is just getting started, but we already have near-new boys basketball shoes, kids dress clothing, everyday pants and dresses, and more!  The more families who donate clothing for Soleado’s site, the more options will be available.  Or, check out the options from other schools.

So, let’s get started today and get more information by going to:

This link will also be available on our Member Planet website
for future reference.

Important plea to Soleado PTA Parents

An important plea to Soleado PTA Parents:

We are in need of 2-3 more parents to be part of our PTA nominating committee.  The nominating committee is composed of 5 members with 2 alternates.  The committee members have an important role in nominating our new PTA council members for the 2014-2015 school year.  The few meetings that are expected of the committee will not be held until after January 15th, so this should not impact your holiday plans.  The commitment includes 2-3 meetings to discuss PTA Board positions, get nominations, and prepare final slate to be presented at the February meeting for a March election.  At the meetings, the current committee members will discuss people that are staying in their current PTA positions, those that are le aving, and positions that need to filled for the next school year.  There are 3 of us already committed to help, but we are looking for 2-3 more parents committed to keeping PTA a strong institution at Soleado.

Please contact me ASAP so that we can finalize the committee and meeting times.

Thank you for your support and for all that we do together in keeping Soleado a wonderful place to learn and grow.

Happy Holidays,
Mrs. Stutzel

Fwd: Update: Orange Ribbon Week

Signatu

Happy Orange Ribbon Week, Soleado Families!

As of today, we have received another $220 in donations to Soleado and a pledge towards an iPad from one of our families.  Thank you to those families for helping to support our school!!!

For the last two years, our teachers and staff have worked together, as well as on their own time, to find effective, innovative, ways to incorporate iPad use in the classrooms.  But right now, our 425 students share fewer than 50 iPads, which means that our teachers are not able to bring iPad-based learning into the classrooms as well as they would like.  Although it seems strange for those of us who were educated before computers entered classrooms, the truth is that computer-based learning is the future for today's students.  At Soleado, we want them to be comfortable with using computers for problem-solving, researching, classroom interaction and more to help prepare them for high school and beyond.  But, we need everyone's help to do so.

Our goal for this week is to raise $5,000 so that we can purchase 10 iPads and cases.  Please use this week as the excuse to get donations in before the end of the year, so that we can order the iPads before our winter break.

I cannot thank our Soleado community enough for all that they do for our students and teachers.  For those who have not donated this year, please help us with a donation in any amount.  If our families pull together, we will reach our goal for the week.
