Message from Mr. Allen

SOLEADO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

27800 Longhill Drive

Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275

"a place in the sun"

Dear Soleado Families,

It is with genuinely mixed emotions that I notify you that I have accepted the position of Principal at Miraleste Intermediate School. The new position presents me with new challenges and professional growth for which I am ready.

While I am excited about my new position, I have a heavy heart as I leave Soleado after 8 years of service to this community. Over those eight years, together, we have taken our school from the lowest performing in the district to one of the highest. We have earned recognition for being a California Distinguished School, spoken to astronauts and made our campus a more beautiful place to work, learn and grow.

Together, we have created a school culture which recognizes and rewards kindness and good citizenship in children. We have restructured the learning community to include all students in the general education setting and set the wheels of collaboration in motion to ensure that they are supported. As a community, we worked to transform our parent support group into one that includes a Booster Club in addition to our PTA, allowing parents an option when seeking ways to become involved in the school.

I have been blessed to have worked with so many wonderful families and children during my time at Soleado. I leave the school knowing that the parent community supports are strong and united, the teaching staff is dynamic and on target toward transitioning to the new Common Core State Standards. Soleado is an outstanding school and I am sure that it will continue to be so in the future.

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District will be making announcements in the very near future as to who will be taking over as the Principal at Soleado. Please be assured that I will be close and present in the transition and that I am only a phone call away.

Thank you for all of the support you have provided over the past eight years. It has been my honor and pleasure to be a part of the Soleado community and village.

Sincerely,

Kevin Allen
